Rules of the Chess Queens Tournament on Lichess
You can navigate this document using the level three heading.
The regulations consist of 15 rules.
1. Playing Platform and Start Date.
The tournament will begin on November 10, 2025, and will take place on the Lichess platform.
2. Tournament System and Tiebreaks.
The tournament will follow the Swiss System, Standard Chess, with 7 rounds.
The tiebreak criteria will be applied in the following order: Head-to-Head Result, Median Buchholz, Buchholz, Progressive.
Each round will last two weeks.
This time may be extended only in specific cases, such as over-the-board tournaments, natural disasters preventing organizers from running the event, etc.
3. Time Control.
The time control is 45 minutes plus a 30-second increment per move, starting from move one.
4. Official Playing Schedule.
The official time zone to avoid confusion is UTC, formerly known as Greenwich Mean Time.
Games will take place starting on Monday of the first week after the pairings are published.
5. Official Communication Channels.
The Organizing Committee will make official announcements, including pairings, standings, and PGN game files, through the following channels:
Website: https://chess-results.com
Email: chessqueens@googlegroups.com
Email: superfoxpro@gmail.com
These will all serve as official communication channels.
6. Player Agreements for Scheduling Games.
Each player must contact their opponent privately and notify the proposal through any official communication channel.
The proposal period is during the first three days of the first week after the pairings are published.
A player who does not make at least one proposal during this period through official channels will lose the right to play at the default scheduled time and must accept the opponent’s proposed time.
The tournament organizers must be informed if a player fails to respond.
If neither player submits a proposal during the specified period, both must play at the default scheduled time.
A player who ignores messages during a round and insists on playing only at the default time may be removed from the tournament.
For rescheduled or postponed games, players must notify the Organizing Committee through official communication channels before the agreed time.
7. Default Schedule for Unscheduled Games.
If both players fail to agree on a date and time by Wednesday at 24:00 UTC of the first week, they must play on Sunday of the final week of the round at 20:00 UTC if they are from America or the Caribbean, connecting through Lichess.
For games between players from different continents outside America and the Caribbean, the default time will be 17:00 UTC.
8. Waiting Time and Absences.
The waiting time is 15 minutes.
By mutual agreement and with prior notification to the Organizing Committee via official communication channels, players may reschedule their game.
A game not played is considered a "Walkover" for the absent player.
If one player notifies via official channels that they will not be present, the opponent is not required to show up, provided they inform the organizers before the scheduled time. If no notice is given, both players will lose the point.
9. Walkover.
A Walkover occurs when a player does not show up, refuses to start, or does not accept the challenge, resulting in a forfeit loss.
10. Winning a Game.
A player earns one point in the following cases:
The player delivers checkmate.
The Lichess server declares them the winner.
The opponent does not show up.
The opponent resigns.
If the game cannot be resumed after a disconnection and one player was using a guest account, the point is awarded to the registered player.
11. Draws.
A half-point is awarded in the following cases:
Both players agree to a draw after Black's 20th move.
If 20 moves have not been completed, the game may be declared a loss for both players.
The only exception to this rule is threefold repetition, provided one of the players claims the draw.
12. Disconnections.
The tournament will follow Lichess platform rules and results regarding disconnections.
13. Grounds for Disqualification.
A player may be expelled from the tournament for the following reasons:
Accumulating two Walkovers.
Using chess engines.
Ignoring messages from the organizers or opponents during the progress of a round.
Disrespecting any participant or member of the Organizing Committee.
14. Right of Admission.
The Organizing Committee reserves the right to accept or reject a player's registration due to the following reasons:
a: The player was expelled from a previous tournament.
b: The player was withdrawn due to violations in previous tournaments.
c: The player has been banned by another chess organization and has not provided sufficient counterarguments.
d: The player has a history of misconduct in previous events.
e: The player is known for ignoring messages from opponents and/or organizers.
f: The player habitually abandons tournaments.
15. Unforeseen Circumstances, Omitted Rules, and Interpretation.
Any issues not covered in these regulations will be resolved based on FIDE rules or by the Organizing Committee, with decisions published through official communication channels.
